Ace Von Johnson

  Ace    Von   Johnson

  Lead, Rhythm or Bass Guitar

For more than 10 years, Ace Von Johnson has been touring the world with a variety of acts, and has carved out a name for himself as an energetic and versatile guitar player within the inner circle of musicians from Los Angeles and different genres alike.

Cutting his teeth early in his career in the Punk Rock scene, he began by starting the group Cheap Sex with friends in San Diego and recording their debut album ‘Launch Off To War’, before moving on to join national touring act Madcap at age 19. After co-writing and recording their 3rd album ‘Under Suspicion’ for Victory Records, they toured extensively with bands ranging from Dropkick Murphy’s to Simple Plan, Fall Out Boy, and many others over course of several years. This led to his relocating back to the Los Angeles area, where he joined The Generators for 6 European tours, and a national tour with The Dead Kennedy’s, all while splitting his time performing and recording with legendary skateboarder-turned-singer, Duane Peters in the bands The Gunfight, The U.S. Bombs and The Great Unwashed. Also around this time, he did a month long tour of Japan with seminal New York Hard Core band Murphy’s Law.

Not to be pigeon-holed within one genre, Ace was also writing and performing with pop singer-songwriter Shanti Wintergate, who ended up touring alongside her husband’s band The Bouncing Souls, on the 2007 Warped Tour. Their album ‘Strange Days’ was well received internationally. Around this time he was asked to join Hollywood-based Americana-rock act Charlie & The Valentine Killers, which featured an all-star backing band, with members of Faster Pussycat, LA Guns, Alice Cooper & others. The group cut a self-titled album, and toured the North-West with country legend David Allen Coe. Ace was brought in by the bands bass player, Jerry Montano (of Danzig, Hell Yeah) to perform in his solo band and play on the album ‘Down & Dirty’, which featured the late Paul Gray of Slipknot, Mike Dupke of W.A.S.P., as well as many other well known musicians from the rock & metal scene.

The connections made through these groups eventually led him to not only various studio efforts (most notably working with Grammy award winning producer Neff-U on an unreleased version of the Michael Jackson trackHollywood Tonight”), but also the formation of the Los Angeles group Blackpool Republic, which featured Ryan Sinn of The Distillers/Angels & Airwaves and later Nigel Mogg of The London Quireboys. The group recorded a self titled album, and EP ‘Light It Up’ before later disbanding.

Any down time in between jobs was filled with work as hired gun. The lengthy list includes stints with artists such as Richie Ramone, Dilana (of Rockstar SuperNova), writing and recording with The Butcher Babies at their inception, and many others before landing the coveted role in 2009 as lead guitarist in legendary Sunset Strip rock outfit Faster Pussycat. The band tours consistently, doing multiple headlining tours nationally each year, as well as appearing on each of the Monsters Of Rock cruise to the Bahamas for the last 4 years.

For a period between 2013 & early 2014 he also performed in the platinum selling pop-punk band Unwritten Law. As of more recently, Ace has been busy with Faster Pussycat, working on new material for their upcoming set of EPs and touring, and playing with the goth-metal group Lords Of The Damned who are also working on material for their debut album. In October of 2014, he was brought in as musical-director for the 11th annual Massachusetts horror convention Rock & Shock’s house band; The Rocking Dead. This one-time all star band featured Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein (formerly of The Misfits) and a cast of rotating members including Randy Blythe of Lamb of God, Wednesday 13 of the Murderdolls and Alan Robert of Life Of Agony, performing a set of classic Misfits songs to a packed house. The Rocking Dead went over so well, that he has already agreed to return to lead the group again in 2015, with an all new lineup.

So whether its lead, rhythm or bass guitar; he is always eager to get onstage, into the studio, hit the road, and constantly working to further make a name for himself.
